TOURNAMENT WILL FEATURE AMATEURS COMPETING IN 50 BRACKETS PER DAY IN FIVE SKILL LEVELS AND NINE AGE BRACKETS
MESA, Ariz. – Legacy Sports USA announced today that it has added another premier event to its ever-growing pickleball schedule at Bell Bank Park, partnering with USA Pickleball to host its Southwest Regionals, a six-day amateur tournament that will feature five skill levels (3.0-5.0) in nine age brackets and two junior divisions which will be played at Legacy’s state-of-the-art pickleball complex.
“We are excited to add this to our growing pickleball event schedule and to offer another amateur event that will be played on our 41 pickleball courts at Bell Bank Park,” said Brett Miller, President of Legacy Sports USA.
The USA Pickleball Southwest Regionals will have approximately 50 brackets per day for the seniors 60 - 80+, consisting of men’s singles and women’s doubles on Tuesday, March 22, approximately 50 brackets in men’s doubles and women’s singles on Wednesday, March 23, and 25 skill and age mixed brackets on Thursday, March 24.
The 59 and under players will consist of 40 brackets in men’s singles and women’s doubles on Friday, March 25, approximately 40 brackets in men’s doubles and women’s singles on Saturday, March 26, and 20 brackets in mixed skill and age on Sunday, March 27. There will also be two Junior divisions, ages 13 and under and ages 14 – 18. The youth divisions will be played on Saturday and Sunday.
“It was extremely disappointing that we had to cancel our 2021 tournament because of Covid restrictions, but we are excited the 2022 event will go on,” said Larry “Bud” Lite, Southwest Regional Director for USA Pickleball. “This is such a popular event, we are expecting more than 1,000 players next year to compete at our new home at Bell Bank Park next March.”
The USA Pickleball Association (USA Pickleball) is the national governing body for the sport of pickleball in the U.S. and provides players with official rules, tournaments, rankings and promotional materials. USA Pickleball is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and is governed by a board of directors and professional staff who provide the guidance and infrastructure for the continued growth and development of the sport.
Bell Bank Park is a privately owned, 320-acre multi-use family sports and entertainment complex in Mesa, Ariz., currently under construction with plans to officially open to the public in January of 2022. Bell Bank Park will create more than 1,500 jobs and generate hundreds of millions of dollars in direct economic impact back to the surrounding community, with an expected three million visitors annually.
